Internet Research: Finding Images
Copyright. A term fraught with misunderstanding and discomfort. Students today are unaware of the reality of what they can and can’t use – the comment “I found it on the Internet” is one that I hear often from my students. Many of them don’t realize that they cannot just use any image they find for their own work. To be fair, many teachers are uneducated on this topic, and don’t realize the same thing.
However, Google to the rescue! Google has many different tools to help people with their research. In terms of images, you are able to search for copyright free images that you can use for all tasks. Simply look under the Images menu, then choose Tools. Under the tools menu, choose usage rights, and then you are provided with the opportunity to filter images and choose only those that you are able to reuse.
A simple tool, but an important one for both teachers and students alike.
